COTUIT— Barnstable  Post 206 won its second straight game Monday evening at Lowell Park, defeating Pembroke Post 143, 7-5, thanks to a stellar pitching performance from southpaw Dave McCoubrey (1-0) and the clutch hitting of Will Sullivan (3-3, 3 RBI, SB).

McCoubrey went 5 2/3 innings allowing six hits, five earned runs, four walks and he struck out four in a gutsy effort after a shaky first frame when Pembroke scored two runs. But the lanky southpaw kept his composure the rest of the way and picked up his first-ever American Legion victory on the mound. Dave Tierno came in to close things out to pick up the save. Sullivan connected for his first hit of the season, a two-strike double to the left-center gap to drive in two critical runs to tie things up, while leadoff man Will Toffey connected to bring in the go ahead run to make it 3-2. Things went back and forth for a while, but Barnstable's nifty baserunning helped put itself in position to bring home runs and get the job done.

HYANNIS  —  Barnstable Post 206 wasted a phenomenal five-inning pitching performance from Salisbury School southpaw Alec Morrison Monday (June 7, 2010) as it watched four Dennis Post 488 infield hits in the fourth inning help the guests chip away at the host's lead.

Barnstable collected big hits from Morrison, Everett Walsh, Zach Sullivan (2-3, RBI) and Luke Besse as it staged an early 5-1 lead, but that lead fell apart in the late innings. Sullivan took the hard-luck loss as Barnstable fell at McKeon Park, in Hyannis, 6-5/.
