Post # 206 Bangs Out 17 Hits But Settles for 12-12 Tie

June 18 - The Barnstable Post # 206 American Legion baseball club had to settle for a 12-12 tie last night at Reed Community Field in Kingston in spite of banging out 17 hits.

    P.J. Pina went 3-4 on the night with two RBI including a 450-foot triple and Richie Myatt went 3-5 with three RBI. Other big hitters for Barnstable included Isaiah Voegeli (2-4), Jeremiah Hegarty (2-4), and Dave Wiseman (2-5, 2 RBI).


Post # 206 Stymied by Norwell Post 192's Perron

June 16 - Barnstable Post # 206 dropped its third straight game in seven days Monday at Lowell Park in Cotuit, 10-1, to Norwell Post # 192. Norwell came into the match-up at 0-4 but its ace, John Perron, was brilliant, holding Barnstable to just six hits and one run on two walks. Perron struck out none. Miah Hegarty went 2-3 for Barnstable and Nik Atsalis went 1-2. Rich Myatt had a key hit in the bottom of the sixth (1-3), stole second and scored a run.


Barnstable Post #206 Falls on the Road to Bridgewater, 15-9 In Spite of Out-Hitting The Hosts

June 13, 2008 — The Barnstable Post # 206 American Legion baseball team fell to Bridgewater Friday night at Legion Field, in spite of outslugging its hosts, 12 hits to seven.

     Dragan Stamenkovic went 3-4 with three RBI, Nik Atsalis went 2-4, Zach Sullivan went 2-3, Lefty Loucks went 1-1, Derek Lucas went 1-2 with a double in his first-ever Legion at-bat and Dave Wiseman went 2-3. Barnstable's pitching staff allowed 13 walks all totalled.


One Tough Inning Gives Abington Post #122 Win Over Barnstable Post #206

June 11, 2008 — Cape Tech ace Jon Farnham retired the side in the first frame versus Abington Post # 122 (2-0) Wednesday night on the road, but a six-run second inning gave the hosts all they needed to get the job done versus Post # 206 in a 7-3 affair. Barnstable left the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate in the seventh.

     Leadoff man Isaiah Voegeli went 2-4 on the day and also pitched a shutout sixth inning. Dave Wiseman went 2-3. Derek Lucas and P.J. Pina also pitched well in relief for Barnstable. All three relievers allowed just one run combined on three hits.


Post #206 Opens Season with Win Over Dennis Post #488

June 9, 2008 — Matt "Chew" Hegarty struggled in the early innings but settled down to pick up right where he left off for the Red Raiders garnering his first win of the summer (1-0) for the Barnstable Post #206 American Legion baseballclub Monday night (June 9). Keegan Dellacona came on in the 7th inning to retire the side for the save. Hegarty is a junior heading into his senior year at Barnstable and coming off an OCL All-Star season, while Dellacona is an incoming freshman.

     Richie Myatt went 2-3, followed by Andrew "Lefty" Loucks (BC High/Sophomore) who went 2-3 with a double and one RBI, DJ Crook (2-2), Jeremiah Hegarty (2-3), Zach Sullivan (1-5, 2 RBI), Nik Atsalis (1-3, 2 stolen bases) and Isaiah Voegeli (2-5, RBI, 2 SBs). Atsalis stole home plate in the second inning.


June 2, 2008 — Post 206 Amercian Legion centerfielder and Barnstable High School senior captain Nik Atsalis went 3-5 with a home run and fellow Legionnaire Sean Morin belted a two-run shot in the early going this afternoon but it was not enough as Barnstable bowed out of the state tournament to North Attleboro, 9-4. Post 206 catcher Zach Sullivan went 3-4 with a double.


June 1, 2008 — Post 206 Amercian Legion centerfielder and Barnstable High School senior captain Nik Atsalis went 3-7 with a triple, scored the tying run to make it 5-5 and plated the winning run in the 14th inning with an RBI single to lead Barnstable past New Bedford in the opening round of the MIAA Division 1 South Sectionals Sunday afternoon in Hyannis. Fellow Legionnaire and BHS junior catcher Zach Sullivan went 4-5 with a home run, while teammate and Legion rightfielder Richie Myatt went 2-5.


May 28, 2008 — Cape Cod Tech and Post # 206's Jon Farnham pitched his team t o a first-round victory in the state tournament in a 5-1 win over Old Colony. He went 6 1/3 innings and also collected an RBI single to help pace his squad to victory.


May 24, 2008 — Barnstable High School and Post # 206 centerfielder Nik Atsalis, captain of the Red Raiders, went 1-3 with a double while teammate and fellow Legionnaire Gagi Stamenkovic also picked up a hit in Barnstable's 6-4 win over Attleboro today on the road... the Red Raiders finished the regular season at 14-6.


May 15, 2008 — Barnstable High School and Post # 206 centerfielder Nik Atsalis, captain of the Red Raiders, went 3-4 with an RBI yesterday to help pace BHS to an 8-6 win over D-Y. Fellow Legion player Zach Sullivan belted a solo home run and RBI double and Legion ace Chew Hegarty picked up his 6th win for the Red Raiders and now stands at 6-0 on the season. Barnstable High is now 11-4.


May 12, 2008 — Barnstable High School and Post # 206 rightfielder Richie Myatt belted a late-inning, RBI triple to help pace Barnstable High School to a 7-5 victory over Dartmouth.


APRIL 21, 2008 — Barnstable High School and Post # 206 righthanded hurler Matt "Chew" Hegarty went the distance Monday afternoon (April 21) versus archrival Falmouth and took home his fourth straight win, 4-2. Hegarty is now 4-0. He struck out five batters and allowed two earned runs on five hits.

    Post # 206 and Red Raider centerfielder Nik Astalis crushed a two run triple in the top of the seventh that ended up being the game-winner.  Down 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning, Post # 206 catcher Zach Sullivan ripped a double off the wall to plate one run to tie it at 2-2, then came home on Atsalis's triple. Junior tri-captain Sean Adams went 3-3.


APRIL 15, 2008 — Barnstable High School and Post # 206 righthanded hurler Matt "Chew" Hegarty went the distance Monday afternoon at home to defeat Attleboro, 5-2, in the Red Raiders' first OCL game of the season. Hegarty fanned five batters en route to his third win (3-0) of the season. Post # 206 catcher Zach Sullivan had an RBI double.


APRIL 11, 2008 — Post # 206 Legion's Gagi Stamenkovic belted a two-run home run to help pace the Red Raiders (4-0) past Sandwich on the road Friday in a 10-5 win.


APRIL 11, 2008 — Barnstable Post #206's Jon Farnham went 2-3 with a solo home run Friday as Cape Tech fell to Old Colony 10-5.


APRIL 1, 2008 — Barnstable American Legion's Nik Atsalis, a senior outfielder at Barnstable High School and three-year starter there, was named captain for the 2008 season for the Red Raiders.

youth baseball program. During these past eight decades, millions
of young players have enjoyed playing baseball. The American Legion
and their 2.8 million members have raised millions of dollars each
year for players to learn the importance of teamwork, discipline,
leadership and good sportsmanship. The American Legion sponsors
American Legion Baseball to give players an opportunity to develop
their skills, personal fitness, leadership qualities and to have fun.

HYANNIS - Post 206 announced this week that longtime Barnstable baseball coach and administrator Sean Walsh of Marstons Mills will take the reins for the 2008 season as the team's new head coach. Former longtime head coach Ted Barnicle, a former Cape League all-star and first round draft pick of the San Francisco Giants will remain as an assistant coach.

     Walsh served as the head coach for the Barnstable Senior Babe Ruth A Team and Cape Cod Senior Babe Ruth All-Stars for several years and led the Cape Cod Senior Babe Ruth All-Stars to State Championship titles in 1993 and 1995.

     Walsh served in the front office of the Cape Cod Baseball League for several years and returned to the diamond in 2003 when he joined the Bourne Braves and recruited the second best pitching staff in the history of the league and helped lead the Braves to the Western Division championship crown. All 23 of Walsh's players were drafted by Major League teams.He has served on the board of directors for Barnstable Little League, coached numerous all-star teams at several levels of competition and is currently on the board of directors for the Cotuit Kettleers.

     Currently, he serves as a Barnstable Silver Bullets head coach and is head coach of the Barnstable Mini-Red Raiders AAU basketball team as well as president of the Barnstable High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

     He is a graduate of Ithaca College and New York University and is a former United States Marine and longtime member in good standing of the American Legion (Post 188 - Sandwich). He lives in Marstons Mills with his wife and three children.
